In 1697, Peter I made officials wear rich clothes. At the same time, reports began to appear on colleagues in the civil service. According to the “Rich Dress”, they sometimes revealed those who were not clean at hand. Instead of nice clothes, people were advised to buy armor and weapons.
“To always be ready for the service of Our Great Sovereign and to be necessary for battles with the enemy”, explained Peter I.
After the king returned from a trip to Europe, fashion changed again. Besides the fact that foreign clothes have been brought to Russia, the head of state has now indicated what kind of underwear people should wear. The list of people forced to follow the new fashion began with the boyars and ended with the merchants, growing longer over the years. You even had to pay a fine for wearing Russian clothes.
Earlier in Russia, the rotation of songs by Alla Pugacheva and Leonid Agutin was banned on the radio. The music list includes artists and their songs, which have recently been deemed undesirable for streaming.
