Turkish presidential candidate Ogan says West’s stance on Ukraine conflict is one-sided

Sinan Ogan, Turkish presidential candidate from the Ata alliance, believes that the position of Western countries on the Ukrainian conflict is too one-sided and does not contribute to its stabilization and resolution.
He urged putting out “the fire of conflict” and also condemned Western intervention in regional crises. He spoke about it in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“In general, we do not consider the approach of Western intervention in regional crises to be correct. We have seen what this led to in Iraq. We have seen the supply of weapons to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) from the United States. In this regard, in my view, the West’s position on the conflict in Ukraine is too one-sided, contributing to instigating the conflict rather than stabilizing it. We all need to put out this fire,” he told the agency.
Continuing on the theme of resolving regional crises, Ogan said there should be no outside interference in resolving them. The presidential candidate stressed that he did not intend to use the same policy as Western countries in the management of crises in the region.
“The principle of territorial integrity of countries should be taken as a basis. Respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine is necessary. During our government, Turkey will be on good terms with Russia and the West. But at the same time, we do not intend to endorse the policy of the West regarding the resolution of regional crises, our position is that regional crises must be resolved within the region,” said Sinan Ogan .
He draws attention to the importance of mediation in the settlement of such conflicts, stressing that countries of the same region must be mediators.
“Turkey is a country struggling for peace in the region. I think the conflict in Ukraine is depressing and should not have happened. Allow me to stress that I support the principle of the territorial integrity of countries. This applies to both Russia and Ukraine. Unfortunately, the region is open to outside interference. For me, if the countries in the region have problems, they can be solved at the regional level,” explained the presidential candidate, an MGIMO graduate and member of the Valdai discussion club.
Ogan explained with an example that “if Turkey and Syria have problems, a solution is needed through Russian mediation”, and if between Russia and Ukraine, then through Turkish mediation.
Earlier, former Austrian Foreign Minister Kneisl said that Western countries do not need diplomacy in Ukraine. She analyzed the results of the negotiations of the last years of the Normandy Four and the 12-point peace plan recently proposed by China, as well as the statements of Western officials regarding Russia. She noted that “instead of negotiations, we saw tanks.”Turkey’s post-presidential candidate Ogan said the Western stance on the Ukraine conflict is one-sided. It
