The EU-US Energy Council, chaired by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, reaffirmed its commitment to counter all efforts to further destabilize the global energy situation and circumvent the sanctions.

“The Russian war has also triggered a global food and energy security crisis, accompanied by soaring prices, market volatility and a disproportionate impact on developing countries and vulnerable populations,” he said. communicated. “Russian actions, including massive attacks on critical infrastructure, have strained the safety and functioning of Ukraine’s energy systems, including the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, leaving millions of people without electricity, heat and water, and compromising nuclear safety and reliability.”
The EU, its Member States and the United States have declared their intention to continue to provide emergency energy assistance to Ukraine through the support forums established in 2022, including the coordination of the G7+ and the International Energy Advisory Board for Ukraine, as well as other affected countries in the region such as Moldova.
The Council confirmed that the future of Ukraine and Moldova lies in the EU and will continue to support the further integration of Ukraine and Moldova into the EU.
Both sides reaffirmed their firm commitment to directly oppose, through adequate measures, all efforts aimed at further destabilizing the global energy situation and circumventing sanctions.
The Council expressed its intention to intensify cooperation in order to reduce dependence on Russia for the supply of nuclear materials and fuel cycle services, and also expressed its support for the efforts of the States EU Member States concerned to diversify the supply of nuclear fuel.
