Experts from the Russian Ministry of Health propose to limit at the legislative level the childbearing age of a woman, that is, the age for giving birth to a child using assisted reproductive technologies (ART).
According to the head of the Russian Association of Human Reproduction Vladislav Korsak, the age limit for ART is 35-40 years old. Currently, a woman from the age of 28 is considered an older primipara. According to the expert, the age of a woman is a very important factor that significantly reduces the chances of her becoming pregnant.
Assisted reproductive technologies helped 26.9% of women under 34 to get pregnant and only 11% of women over 40. These procedures are quite expensive, Korsak added.
Over the years, the risk of pathological course of pregnancy and chromosomal disease in a child, including Down syndrome, also increases.
