JAGS: Internet use for more than 6 minutes daily reduces the risk of dementia after 50 years

– Published on:

New York University experts have discovered a useful property of the Internet for older people. Internet surfing has been found to reduce the risk of dementia.

More than 18 thousand healthy people aged 50 to 65 years were under the supervision of scientists. During the study, almost 5% of the volunteers were diagnosed with dementia.

Among the patients were mostly those who do not accept the use of gadgets. Those who used the Internet daily were 50% less likely to experience cognitive degradation. The result was achieved at least 6-12 minutes spent on the open spaces of the network.

“Online interaction can help develop and maintain cognitive reserve, which, in turn, can compensate for brain aging and reduce the risk of dementia,” the authors of a study for the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society explained the mechanism of the influence of the Internet on cognition.

Scientists have warned that it is also impossible to abuse the Internet. A detrimental effect is possible, which will be studied in more detail in future works. IA Kulik .
