The current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, referring to the preliminary results of the vote count in the presidential elections, clearly stated his leadership. He said this during a speech to supporters from the balcony of the ruling Justice and Development Party headquarters, writes TASS.
“Although there are no definitive data yet, I can say that we are in the lead by a clear margin. We believe that we can collect more than 50% of the votes in the first round of the elections. The votes of voters who have voted abroad have not yet been counted,” the Turkish leader said.
Erdogan also expressed his belief that the High Election Commission will need “a little more time” before the vote counting process can be declared complete. Also, the head of state said that the opposition is trying to deceive people with statements about the leadership of their candidate in the presidential elections in the country.
Earlier it became known that the share of votes cast in favor of Erdogan fell below 50%. If, according to the results of the ballot, he does not obtain this percentage necessary for victory in the first round of the elections, a second round will take place in two weeks.
