Agencies – Capitals:
The commander of the pro-Russian Wagner forces, Yevgeny Prigozhin, confirmed that not a single soldier remained in Bakhmut, in a categorical denial of what the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense claimed that it controlled a small part of the city and tactically surrounded it. Prigozhin said: There is no Ukrainian soldier left in Bakhmut because we do not find anyone we can take into captivity.. There are a large number of corpses of the Ukrainian army.
He also considered that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is either cunning or is not aware of what is happening on the ground, referring to his approval earlier today of the fall of the city and then his retreat hours later, especially after several statements by Ukrainian leaders came out that contradicted what he said.
A senior Ukrainian military commander confirmed that his country’s forces control “a small part of Bakhmut, but it is a foothold that will be sufficient to enter the destroyed city when the situation changes,” as he put it. General Oleksandr Sersky said in a post on Telegram that Kiev forces are advancing on the outskirts of Bakhmut and are about to impose a “tactical encirclement” of the city.
For its part, Western media expected that Kiev would launch a counterattack in Bakhmut. And leaked US intelligence documents indicate that most of the Ukrainian forces training in some NATO countries were scheduled to arrive home by May 1, which means that they will most likely reach the front and be ready for offensive operations in the coming weeks.
