On an island in the Caribbean Sea… Beijing manipulates Washington with the same weapon

– Published on:

Two experts, military and political, believe, in their commentary to Sky News Arabia on these events, that “if the information is correct, the spy base can make the United States an open book for China”.

And they felt that China is “exploiting its relationship with Cuba, which has a sensitive geographic location for the United States, to respond to Washington’s exploitation of its relationship with Taiwan.”

The Origin of the American Accusation

According to US media, a White House official, who declined to be identified, accused Beijing of having “developed the infrastructure of a facility it controls in Cuba to collect intelligence”. The same official confirmed that US President Joe Biden “has seen information about the presence of Chinese intelligence in Cuba since 2021”.

Cuban exile and Chinese counterattack

For its part, Cuba denied these allegations with the words of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio. De Cosio said on Twitter: “The defamatory speculation continues, and it is clear that a number of outlets are promoting it to harm and create anxiety, without meeting minimum standards of communication, and without providing data or evidence to support what is happening. published.” As for China, it was accused by Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin at a press conference in Washington of “spreading rumours”. Beijing said Washington “has a patent to deliberately interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.”

A repeat of the “Cuban Missile Crisis”

In 1961, US spy planes discovered Soviet nuclear missile bases in Cuba, and it later became known that the Soviet Union wanted to counter Washington, which deployed nuclear missiles in Turkey, which is close to the Soviet Union .

Military expert, Jamal Al-Rifai, explains the seriousness of the presence of Chinese espionage activities in Cuba on behalf of the United States, saying:

“Cuba is approximately 100 km off the coast of Florida, making it a strategic threat if exploited by its enemies.” “Cuba is a permanent headache for America, and everyone knows about the missile crisis when the Soviet Union tried to exploit Cuba to destabilize the United States, and the current situation is similar to this crisis, if the existence of the spy base is true.” “The significance of the spy base is that Beijing can monitor the movements of American ships and aircraft, which helps it in trade and military disputes with Washington, just as Florida has very sensitive military installations, nuclear weapons and secret bases from which US operations are launched.” “Washington will not accept the presence of China’s eyes near it, and may respond to Beijing in the Taiwan court.” “It is also not excluded that Washington acts against Cuba.”

Transferring the crisis from Taiwan to Cuba

In turn, international relations expert Jasser Matar points out that deepening China’s relations with Cuba to this degree means “Beijing’s response to what Washington is doing against it in Taiwan.”

These indicators bear witness to this:

“China strengthened its relationship with Cuba after America strengthened its relationship with Taiwan.” “China has chosen to follow the US policy of creating a crisis near its borders.” “The presence of a Chinese spy base means that US shores have come under Beijing’s gaze, which the latter could use as a bargaining chip to stop US support for Taiwan.” “The cold war between China and America could escalate and the intelligence base could become a military base.” “Everyone knows that Cuba is not on good terms with America; it is not excluded that it houses a Chinese intelligence base.
