Swiss parliamentary committee proposes to remove restrictions on re-export of ammunition

– Published on:

The Swiss parliamentary committee has proposed lifting the ban that prevents the re-export of Swiss-made ammunition from other countries to Ukraine.
The recommendation was backed by 14 votes in favor and 11 against and will require the approval of the whole parliament.
“Most members of the committee believe that Switzerland should contribute to European security, in particular by providing additional aid to Ukraine,” the Swiss parliamentary committee said in a statement.
Switzerland had previously rejected German calls to allow it to re-export Swiss-made ammunition to Ukraine, arguing that such a move would violate its neutrality.
However, pressure on Bern to reconsider its policies has increased, including during the World Economic Forum, which Switzerland is hosting in Davos.
In a statement, the commission noted that its proposal does not violate the rules of Swiss neutrality, since the weapons will be shipped via another country, and not directly to the conflict zone.
