Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners

– Published on:

On February 4, Ukraine and Russia exchanged almost two hundred prisoners of war, the bodies of two British volunteers were sent to the Ukrainian side.

The head of Ukraine’s presidential administration, Andrii Yermak, said 116 Ukrainians had been returned, while Russian news agencies, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, announced the release of 63 Russian prisoners of war.

“We managed to fire 116 Mariupol defenders, Kherson supporters, Bakhmut snipers and our other heroes,” Yermak wrote on his Telegram channel. He also said the bodies of British volunteers Andrew Bagshaw and Chris Parry had been handed over to the Ukrainian side.

Parry’s family previously reported that Bagshaw and Parry were killed during a humanitarian evacuation mission in eastern Ukraine in January.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the released Russian servicemen belonged to a “sensitive category” of people whose exchange was made possible thanks to the mediation of the United Arab Emirates.
