FBI finds another secret document at Mike Pence’s home

– Published on:

It came after secret documents were discovered at the home of Mike Pence, who was vice president in former President Donald Trump’s administration, in January, a spokesman for Pence said. The agreed search, which the Justice Department confirms, took place after Pence’s attorney, Greg Jacobs, informed the National Archives in a January 18 letter of the discovery of the secretly marked tapes. The tapes were turned over to the FBI.

“Pence and his legal team have cooperated fully with the relevant authorities,” Devin O’Malley, a spokesman for the former vice president, said in a statement.

Neither Mike Pence nor his wife were in the house at the time of the search, but a member of his legal team was present, giving the judiciary full access to all areas of the house.

In addition to the marked page, the FBI also found “six additional pages of unmarked documents not previously found when the vice president’s attorney initially reviewed them,” he added.

The search of Pence’s home came as former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden were also involved in investigations into the possession of classified records and documents by senior government officials.

Special Counsel Jack Smith is investigating whether Trump or his associates may have obstructed the Justice Department’s investigation, given that thousands of pages of government documents ended up in Trump’s home after he left the White House in January 2021, several hundred of which have been marked as secret. .

On Aug. 8 last year, the FBI conducted a court-authorized search of Trump’s home in Florida, where officers collected about 13,000 documents, about 100 of which contained classified notes.

Either way, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed special counsel Robert Hoore in January, after Joe Biden’s legal team said they uncovered classified documents in November at the Penn-Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, a University of Pennsylvania think tank. Joe Biden’s office was located there after he resigned as vice president under US President Barack Obama and before his own presidential election. Secret recordings were also later found at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware. A third concerted search of Biden’s Delaware Beach home in early February turned up no additional documents.
