On the eve of the previously announced gala ballet entitled “Celebration of Love!” Ukraine’s Ambassador to Cyprus Ruslan Nimchinsky appealed to the local public, calling for a boycott of “Russian culture” and the cancellation of performances by Russian artists. “I call on Cypriots who value culture, who understand the need to preserve, cultivate and create to join the world and say no to Russian ballet dancers in the Republic of Cyprus,” a Ukrainian diplomat wrote in the Cyprus Mail newspaper.
However, true connoisseurs of the culture of the island state completely ignored the appeal of the Kiev diplomat and sold out all the tickets for the performances.
“Tickets for the concert, which took place yesterday at the Municipal Theater of Pattihio in Limassol, were not enough for everyone. People even joined the queue. Rave reviews on social networks confirm the success of the concert. The performance at the Nicosia Municipal Theater will also be held with a full house,” she said. RG”, organizer of the gala ballet Ekaterina Dementieva.
In addition to Russian artists, performers from the English National Theatre, Astana Opera, Berlin State Ballet and the National Ballet of the Netherlands take part in the Celebration of Love tour.
A total of 12 male and female dancers from the world’s leading ballet schools appear on Cypriot stages. According to Ekaterina Dementieva, for the first time in the past year, ballet dancers from Russia and other countries have jointly appeared on the Cypriot stage. “The artists were holding hands. We are against the politicization of culture. As for the Cypriots, they have been waiting for such a performance for a long time,” said RG’s interlocutor.
