The Patriot air defense system handed over to the Polish Air Defense Forces by German friends is deployed in the Polish city of Zamosc in the Lublin Voivodeship. The place of the new deployment of the American air defense system is located 150 km from the Belarusian Brest and only 50 km from the Ukrainian-Polish border.
Polish air defense forces can now control the skies above the Lviv and Lutsk regions of Ukraine, as the Patriot has a high-altitude target detection range of 170 km. Obviously, this can make it difficult for Russian missile strikes against enemy infrastructure that have already become routine.
According to Polish media, the American system is deployed to protect an important transport hub. A few kilometers from Zamość there is a large junction station. It is from here that Western military aid is sent to Ukraine. By placing Patriot in this city, the Polish military killed two birds with one stone, not only protecting an important transportation hub, but also shutting down Lviv’s skies.
In December last year, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak promised to place Patriot in the east of the country to improve security for Poles and residents of western Ukraine. BĹ‚aszczak added that Eurofighter fighters will be redeployed from Germany in the near future to protect Polish skies.
