Ghetto prisoners honored in Minsk Fox News

Representatives of diplomatic missions, public and religious organizations, members of the Jewish community laid bouquets of spring flowers at the monument in the Belarusian capital, where around five thousand ghetto prisoners were shot by the Nazis on that day- there in 1942, informs BelTA.Speaking at the rally, Oleg Rogatnikov, president of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations, recalled the horrific figures of the Holocaust. More than 150,000 Jews from Belarus and Europe, who were brought here, were destroyed in the Minsk ghetto, and a total of 800,000 Jews died on the territory of Belarus during the war.That is why, underlined Rogatnikov, “we come here every year to remember the people who rest here, their tragedy and so that their deaths are not in vain. We come not to forget and to forgive these terrible events. We come for future generations.”
Israel’s Charge d’Affaires in Belarus, Zvi Mirkin, noted that as a diplomat, he often has to attend Holocaust memorial events. In this regard, he expressed the hope that the memory of people who were victims of the Holocaust will be preserved in monuments, archival documents and, of course, in the memory of many generations.
