Diana found a confirmation photo at a thrift store, then the confirmation baby – ‘Now she sees how much she and her mother really look alike’

Photographer and artist Díana Júlíusdóttir reports that an old photograph she found at a thrift store found its way to the girl in the photo. Diana emphasizes the importance of respecting and preserving old photographs.

“In the summer of 2022, I went to the Salvation Army thrift store. I found a very nice confirmation photo there which I bought. I announced on this page if anyone recognized the girl in the photo. I have received many responses and discussions about the photographs,” says Diana in a group post. old photographs on Facebook. She says most of the talk has been positive, but some has been negative, as some felt that photographs that ended up in commercial markets should just be thrown away.

Diana found the girl who was the confirmation child in the photo and says they talked a lot and met where Diana brought the photo to her.

“She didn’t have a confirmation photo of herself and it was a wonderful feeling when she told me that this photo brought back memories for her and that she could now see how much she and her mother were together. really looked alike. A nice, good keepsake photo is so precious,” Diana says, thanking the young girl for hosting her and telling her the story behind the photo.

The girl’s name is Íris Björnsdóttir and the photo was taken in 1987. In a comment on , she said: “Thank you dear Diana for sending me the photo and it’s nice to chat with you. Your photo book is also very beautiful.” Now Iris finally has a picture to show her daughters what she looked like on her confirmation day.

“Respecting and preserving photographs is very important. This story really tells us, if you find unique photographs in thrift stores, don’t throw them away. If you don’t want to find the story and owners of the photo, leave someone else do it for you,” Diana points out.
