The action-thriller Hypnotic starring Ben Affleck hits theaters on May 12. Robert Rodriguez had dreamed of making the film for years, but other projects, the COVID-19 pandemic and an ongoing insurance lawsuit have constantly pushed work back.
Last weekend, the film was decided to be screened at the SXSW festival in the director’s hometown of Austin, despite its incompleteness. “I can’t wait to share the film with moviegoers who are ready to experience a wild and fun journey filled with twists and cool discoveries,” Rodriguez said in introducing the film.
In Hypnotic, Ben Affleck plays a detective who finds himself trapped down a rabbit hole as he investigates a series of crimes mysteriously linked to the disappearance of his daughter. A gifted psychic puts him in touch with a deadly ghost that could lead to a clue. Some reviewers called the film “brilliant”, while others called it “oversaturated” with the wanderings of the hero.
