The theme of the roundtable was “Chinese Modernization and New Global Opportunities”. The organizers of the meeting are the China Media Corporation and the Russian media group Russia Today. The event brought together China Media Corporation General Manager Shen Haixiong, senior Russian media and university officials, government officials and scientists from both countries. Meeting participants discussed modernization paths, taking into account national realities, and recognized that China is following its own development path. This model can serve as an example for other countries and provide new opportunities for the development of human civilization.

The boss of the China Media Corporation, Shen Haixiong, noted that 10 years ago, it was on the MGIMO podium that Chinese President Xi Jinping presented for the first time the concept of a “Community with a common destiny for humanity”, which found a broad response from the international community. Over the past decade, the President of the People’s Republic of China has proposed the Belt and Road Initiatives, Global Development, Global Security and Global Civilization, which provide China’s plan to respond to changing in the world, to the changes of time and to the changes of history. Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed the idea of ​​”modernization with Chinese characteristics”, demonstrating the wisdom, scope and responsibility of a great politician. Shen Haixiong said the China Media Corporation will promote the diversification and impartiality of the international mass communication (MCM) system so that the world can hear the voices of people around the world. To this end, he urged the media to innovate in promoting the theme of modernization with Chinese characteristics and strengthen media cooperation.
Andrey Denisov, first vice-chairman of the Federation Council’s international affairs committee, noted that Russia supports the Chinese president’s initiative “Communities with a common destiny for mankind” and “One belt, one road”. and would jointly maintain peace and security around the world under the Global Security Initiative. He and other roundtable participants discussed the author’s article published by President Xi Jinping in Rossiyskaya Gazeta. He said modernization with Chinese characteristics will demonstrate the advantages of China’s development model and has important educational value.

Rossiyskaya Gazeta Director General Pavel Negoitsa noted that modernization with Chinese characteristics is modernization that follows the path of peaceful development and aims to promote global progress. He assured that Rossiyskaya Gazeta, together with the China Media Corporation and other Chinese media, will deepen the communication mechanism and promote long-term cooperation plans.

Alexei Nikolov, general director of the RT television channel, said that with the change in the international situation, the nature of Western media has been exposed – ignoring facts and distorting the truth. In this context, Russian and Chinese journalists should strengthen their cooperation and jointly contribute to justice.

Fan Yun, a member of the editorial board of China Media Corporation, noted that CGTN always strives to objectively cover events and promote the values ​​of “equality, mutual learning, dialogue and tolerance.” He called on the media to tell the story of their country’s modernization and to stimulate the creation of a multipolar and inclusive international media system.

MGIMO Vice-Rector Andrei Baikov noted that the institute has witnessed the continuous development of Russian-Chinese relations. Andrei Baikov expressed his hope for the future expansion of cooperation with China in the fields of culture, education and youth exchanges.

Vasily Pushkov, head of the Rossiya Segodnya Media Group’s International Cooperation Department, said the China Media Corporation, after “two sessions” this year, has held a series of media events. 1,034 leading media from 93 countries and regions participated or reported, reaching over 1.06 billion overseas viewers and readers.

The round table also brought together officials from relevant departments of the China Media Corporation, representatives of economic, social and cultural circles in China and Russia, as well as journalists from both countries. After the event, CMG director Shen Haixiong gave a special interview to the Russia-1 TV channel.
