But for a long time, the number of tourists visiting there remained low, because the path was difficult. In 2019, the construction of the Mon La road tunnel at an altitude of 4750 meters above sea level was completed. This marked the opening of the 400-km high-grade Lhasa-Lin Chi highway after 6 years of efforts.
Earlier it used to take 9 hours to go from Lhasa to Lin Chi and now it takes only 5 hours.
