Tourism industry flourishes in rural areas of Tibet

The traffic of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has quadrupled day and night. With the completion of traffic infrastructure, the tourism industry is developing rapidly in some remote or inaccessible rural areas. When the peak season of tourism comes, Tobgyal’s family hotel It is very difficult to get a place. Their daily income is about 2000 yuvan i.e. more than twenty thousand rupees.

Now they are thinking of expanding their family hotel by investing 10 lakh yuan and setting up a showroom selling location specific products. Basom Tso Lake is located in Tso Cao town of Lin Chi City. In the year 1994, it was included in the list of world-class tourist destinations by the World Tourism Organization. But for a long time, the number of tourists visiting there remained low, because the path was difficult. In 2019, the construction of the Mon La road tunnel at an altitude of 4750 meters above sea level was completed. This marked the opening of the 400-km high-grade Lhasa-Lin Chi highway after 6 years of efforts.

Earlier it used to take 9 hours to go from Lhasa to Lin Chi and now it takes only 5 hours. With the construction of this road, the number of tourists visiting Bassom Tso lake is increasing day by day. Kongchok, 25, works as a guard at the Dondrap Bosam Tso Scenic Area. He said he was satisfied with the job. My monthly salary is about 3,600 yuan. Besides a steady income, I can take care of the family and do farming. The credit for this goes to the convenience of the Lin Chi-Lhasa high-level route. Norsang Tseten, deputy chief of Tso Kao town, said that since 2021, Basom Tso tourist destination has hosted more than 76,000 tourists and tourism income is more than 4.5 million. 67 farmers have got regular jobs. With the development of tourism industry in rural areas of Tibet, the income of local farmers and herders is also increasing rapidly and their lives are being transformed.
