Washington: US lawmaker Ro Khanna has come out in support of his maternal grandfather, late Amarnath Vidyalankar, who was recently criticized on social media for supporting the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Emergency. Khanna said, “Attack me, don’t attack India’s freedom fighters.” . A court in Surat in Gujarat state last week convicted Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case and sentenced him to two years in prison. After that, Gandhi, a former Congress president, was disqualified for membership of the Lok Sabha.
Khanna recently tweeted, Rahul Gandhi’s expulsion from Parliament is a deep betrayal of Gandhian philosophy and India’s deep-rooted values.
