In partnership with the Humanitarian Support Fund of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and as part of efforts to support food security and livelihoods, the Qatar Red Crescent continues to implement tree pruning activities and laying irrigation wells in the targeted areas within the project “Creating Job Opportunities through Revitalization And the expansion of three medium-sized irrigation projects in the Salqin region of Idlib Governorate, northern Syria. The project aims to achieve self-sufficiency for farmers, contribute to their economic empowerment, and create job opportunities for the displaced and the host community, through the establishment of 3 medium irrigation systems to irrigate trees and intercropping for an area of ​​290 hectares of agricultural land in the Salqin region in northern Syria, in addition to pruning 67,000 olive trees for Saleh Other beneficiaries of irrigation projects. The activities of the irrigation projects include the maintenance of the former basins, gates, and intake wells, the rehabilitation of the Farouqi irrigation canal with a length of 1.8 km, the extension of an irrigation network with a length of 5.1 km and a distribution network of a length of 9.7 km, the extension of an electricity network to the pumping rooms, the provision of 3 high-voltage transformers, 22 electrical towers, distribution panels and cables, In addition to supplying and installing 7 medium-flow pumps with a capacity of 75-150 m3 on the Orontes River. The project also works to support the livelihoods of the targeted villages, by providing job opportunities by employing 140 workers in tree pruning activity, and employing 40 other workers in digging and rehabilitating irrigation projects. At the end of the project, the boards of directors of the Water Users Association will be trained to manage the project, to ensure continuity in its operation and provision of services to farmers.
