US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has called on Americans to leave Russia after the arrest of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.
“We reiterate our strong warnings of the danger threatening American citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation. U.S. citizens residing in the Russian Federation or traveling to Russia must leave the country immediately, as prescribed by travel advisories,” Blinken said.
He also clarified that his office is in contact with representatives of the WSJ on the situation with the arrest of the American journalist.
The Lefortovo court in Moscow has arrested Evan Gershkovich, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), who was previously detained in Yekaterinburg, on suspicion of espionage.
The Wall Street Journal said it was “deeply concerned” by the journalist’s detention.
Gershkowitz used a journalism visa and accreditation to cover up non-journalistic activities. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. Blinken urged Americans to leave Russia
