As a general rule, shops remain closed on Easter Monday. However, in some major cities there are exceptions to opening hours. Where and when can you shop on Easter Monday 2023.
During the Easter holidays, many Germans ask themselves the same question: “Which supermarkets and pharmacies are really open at Easter?” The good news is that uniform federal rules allow the public to keep their finger on the pulse.
Easter hours:
GrĂĽndonnerstag: It’s not a public holiday, so all supermarkets and shops are open. Karfreitag: Today is a public holiday, so all supermarkets and shops are closed. Karsamstag: Supermarkets and pharmacies are open because Saturday is not a public holiday either. Ostersonntag: On Sundays the holiday rule applies, i.e. all shops remain closed. Ostermontag: On Monday, supermarkets and all other shops are also closed – there are exceptions to this rule in major cities in Germany.
