Sobyanin announced the transfer of the construction site of a mosque in eastern Moscow after protests

– Published on:

Moscow authorities have decided to move the construction site of the mosque to the Kosino-Ukhtomsky district. About it in my telegram channel informed mayor of the city Sergei Sobyanin. Earlier, the media wrote that the mosque would be built next to the holy lake, which caused discontent among local residents.

According to the mayor, the decision to move the construction site was taken after appeals from Patriarch Kirill and Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gaynutdin, who asked to choose another place for the construction of a religious object.

According to Sobyanin, land will be allocated for the construction of the mosque near the Kosino metro station – between the future diameter MCD-3, the Moscow high-speed diameter and the Moscow ring road, within walking distance of the metro and the MDC.

The mayor also noted that the proposal to build a mosque had been preliminary considered by the planning and land commission, but the decisions of the Moscow government and the orders of the relevant executive authorities on this issue had not been accepted.

In addition, Sobyanin called “incorrect” the rumors that the area of the mosque is 40,000 square meters. M. According to the head of the city, “we are talking about a very modest object of 2.5 thousand square meters. Mr.

“On the one hand, the mosque will not interfere with the inhabitants of neighboring houses. On the other hand, it will be in good transport accessibility. The surroundings of the mosque will be laid out and accessible on foot as we do in the Orthodox churches. Moscow is a multinational and multi-denominational city. We have always lived and will live in peace and harmony,” he added.

At the end of February, the media, in particular “Ridus”, reported that in Moscow it was planned to build the “largest mosque in the country” next to the Holy Lake in the Kosino-Ukhtomsky district. According to the publication, the mosque was supposed to exceed the size of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and will be able to accommodate 60,000 people.

Information about the construction of the facility caused discontent among local residents, nationalists, as well as several Russian MMA fighters. The Change.org site, where the petition against the construction of the object was collected, declared that the holy lake is a “religious and historical sanctuary of Russia”, and before the revolution it was a “center of serious pilgrimage. Chechnya’s leader Ramzan Kadrov suggested that opponents of the construction of a mosque go to the Donbass “into the trenches with a machine gun”.
