Former pilot appreciates Washington Post data on ‘almost shot down’ RC-135 over Black Sea

In the United States, they decided to recall last year’s incident involving Su-27 fighters over the Black Sea. The Washington Post newspaper reported that in September 2022, a Russian fighter jet nearly shot down a British RC-135 reconnaissance plane. The purpose of the publication is obvious: to remind the public of the aggressiveness of Russian pilots.

Ever since the MQ-9 Reaper drowned drone story ran out, the American media had to unearth a not-so-fresh story. The incident involving the Su-27 and RC-135 was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense in October last year. The head of the department, Ben Wallace, announced the launch of a missile from a Russian fighter at a reconnaissance aircraft. He called the incident “potentially dangerous” but suggested there had been a technical malfunction.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation did not comment on the situation and the incident went down in history. However, WP, citing “secret sources in the Pentagon”, published its own version of what happened. Former pilot of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the author of the telegraphic channel Fighterbomber commented on the new publication of the American newspaper.

In such matters, “almost knocked down” equates to the definition of “almost pregnant”. A fighter flying to intercept an aerial target is never armed with a single missile. It is usually a lot of missiles of different types with different homing heads, as well as a cannon with ammunition. Therefore, if a fighter received an order to destroy an American intelligence officer, who, for example, decided that he suddenly did not recognize that Crimea is Russia, which means that there is no has no state border here and he can fly wherever he wants, without reacting to the commands of the fighter, then he would have been demolished not by the first, but by the fifth rocket. If necessary, they would fire a control burst from a cannon. And if there was some kind of failure in the fighter that wouldn’t allow shooting, then his wingman would, because they almost always fly to intercept in pairs

  • writes the author of the Fighterbomber channel.

The outrageous post in WP was published yesterday. The authors added bright colors to the forgotten incident, reporting that the Su-27 attack on a British military aircraft nearly caused the United States to enter the conflict, followed by the outbreak of World War III.
