Singapore: A 25-year-old Indian-origin man has been charged with assault and other offenses in a court for allegedly brandishing an ax in Singapore’s Central Business District (CBD). According to reports, in a video posted on YouTube, Manohar Thirunavukkarasu is seen waving an ax while crossing the road towards Raffles City shopping mall in Stamford Road in the CBD on Tuesday morning. He walked towards a police car parked at a nearby traffic signal, whereupon two officers present pointed their weapons at him.
The report said that the man then threw his axe, which fell on the adjacent pavement. Earlier in a statement, police said they received information about a brawl on Stamford Road on Tuesday morning. The 25-year-old was later charged with possession of a weapon, using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty and using abusive language against a public servant, the daily reported, quoting police. has been arrested.
Police also said a 71-year-old man was taken to hospital, and a 29-year-old man is assisting with the investigation. Manohar will be sent to a mental health institute for medical examination. The hearing of his case has been adjourned till April 26.
