The American Institute of Geophysics said the quake occurred in the sea and was strong, with a magnitude of seven. The Indonesian Geological Agency ruled out the occurrence of a tsunami after the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 594 km. It is noteworthy that on the second of last March, a 5-magnitude earthquake struck south of the island of Sumatra, and it was at a depth of about 100 kilometers below the surface of the earth.
