New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted the countrymen on the occasion of Baisakhi, Bohag Bihu, Puthandu and Oriya New Year. This festival is celebrated to mark the beginning of the traditional new year and reflects the social culture and rich heritage of our country. Extending Baisakhi greetings, Modi said in a tweet, “It is a very special occasion that brings hope, positivity and camaraderie. I wish everyone happiness and health. I wish May the aspirations of the people be fulfilled.In another tweet, the Prime Minister greeted the people on Bohag Bihu.
He said, “I will be with the people of Assam on the occasion of Bohag Bihu this year. I hope this festival will strengthen the spirit of harmony and brotherhood in our society. The Prime Minister also congratulated the countrymen on Pan Sankranti and Puthandu and wished them a healthy and happy life.
The festival is celebrated as ‘Ugadi’ in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and ‘Ugadi’ in Karnataka. In Maharashtra, this festival is celebrated as ‘Gudi Padwa’ and in Tamil Nadu as ‘Puthandu’. Our Malayali brothers and sisters in Kerala celebrate this festival as ‘Vishu’ and in Punjab it is celebrated as ‘Vaisakhi’. In Odisha it is celebrated as ‘Pana Sankranti Ke Naam’. ‘Poila Boishakh’ in West Bengal and ‘Bohag Bihu’ in Assam mark the arrival of the new year.
