what revealed the scandal with the flag of Ukraine in St. Petersburg

The meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States in St. Petersburg was marked by a patriotic scandal. The reason was that the head of the region, Alexander Beglov, gave an opening speech, standing next to the flag of Ukraine suspended for some reason. The photo report appeared on the government website, after which a wave of indignation began to grow in the network.

The soldiers, who are currently fighting on the front lines with the enemy holding the same flag in their hands, expressed their thoughts on what happened. Russian army soldiers did not stand up and immediately wrote an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin and St. Petersburg Governor Beglov.

“We, the fighters of the Russian army, fight terrorists and militants who fight under this flag. Under this flag, war crimes are committed, under this flag our prisoners of war are executed, under the auspices of this flag, terrorist attacks are taking place <…>. We would like to ask you to investigate this incident and punish all those responsible,” the soldier said in the video.

Military analyst Boris Rozhin compared what happened with the fact that an official of the USSR spoke against the background of the flag of the Third Reich.

“Beglov’s speech in St. Petersburg against the background of the Ukrainian flag is almost as if in 1942 the head of the Leningrad city committee was speaking against the background of the flag of Nazi Germany,” Rozhin wrote in his Telegram.

He added that apparently more corpses and terror attacks in Russia are needed, so officials “would kindly deign to take that away.”

“Although if after a year of war they haven’t understood anything, it’s probably too late to change anything there, only to cut it. In the material sense, of course,” the analyst concluded disappointingly. .

The founder of Wagner PMC, whose fighters are currently fighting fiercely in Bakhmut, Evgeny Prigozhin, long known for criticizing the leader of St. Petersburg for activities whose patriotism is in doubt, did not ruled out.

“Some die to tear off this flag, while others, trampling on their bodies and spitting in their closed eyes, cling to it and glorify it,” Prigozhin quotes in the press service of the Concord company.

Meanwhile, military commander Alexander Kots looked at the situation more broadly, drawing a disappointing interim conclusion about society as a whole. He believes that the incident with the enemy’s banner shows the company’s lack of involvement in the cause of victory.

“It’s not just the story of Governor Beglov standing on the podium. And not even about the third person in the state sitting behind him. It’s a story about all of us,” wrote Kots on Telegram.

He noted that the flag hung in front of the Tauride Palace, where the meeting of the CIS Assembly was held, for at least a day.

“And what, not a single passerby was bothered?” No one noticed and tried to remove it? Everyone was waiting for the young national-Bolshevik, who is now also welded to the administration? Where does this indifference come from? asks the journalist.

Kotz thinks that even in this situation, anyone with little ability can do at least something to win.

“To begin with, do not walk past the enemy flag flying in Russian cities. And we will contribute for an administrative fine”, concluded the military commander.

Meanwhile, Fontanka.ru, citing the city’s “elders”, claims that the flag has not been hung recently. It hung on the palace building throughout 2022.

After the scandal that had already erupted and the subsequent discussions in the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, they decided to comment on what had happened. The appearance of the flag near the Tauride Palace is explained by the fact that Ukraine did not leave the CIS and is still a member of it, and therefore the appearance of the flag of a country that is a member of the association is due to legal requirements.

In other words, there is a dilemma: we are in the same Union with an enemy state, and official relations between countries are always associated with various regulations. It turns out that Ukraine is referred to as an enemy in the Telegram channels of some government officials, but this is not officially documented and therefore such incidents are inevitable.
