New Delhi. Guru Arjan (15 April 1563 – 30 May 1606) was the first of the two martyred Sikh Gurus and the fifth of the ten Sikh Gurus. Guru Arjan compiled the first official version of the Sikh scripture, called the Adi Granth, which later expanded into the Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Arjan was born in Goindwal, Punjab, the youngest son of Bhai Jetha, who later became Mata Bhani, daughter of Guru Ram Das and Guru Amar Das. He completed the construction of Darbar Sahib in Amritsar, the fourth Sikh Guru founded the city and built a pool. Guru Arjan compiled the hymns of Adi Guru and other saints, the first edition of the Sikh scripture, and installed it in the Harimandir Sahib.

Guru Arjun Dev Ji was a protector of Dharma and a true lover of humanity. He was the fifth Guru of the Sikhs and his name is recorded in the pages of history. Let us tell you that he spent his whole life in social service. He is said to have been imprisoned by the Mughal emperor Jahangir in Lahore in 1606 and sentenced to death during that time. In fact, Guru Arjun Dev Ji was a protector of religion and a true servant of humanity and had respect for all religions. Akbar was a follower of Guru Arjun Dev during the Mughal period.

It is said that at the time when Akbar died, Guru Arjun Dev did not get that much importance during the reign of Jahangir. At that time, when Mughal ruler Jahangir ordered to expel Prince Khusro from the country, Guru Arjun Dev gave him shelter. For this reason Jahangir had sentenced him to death. Guru Arjun Dev Ji was born on April 15, 1563 at Goindwal Sahib. His father was Guru Ram Das, who was the fourth Guru of the Sikhs, and his mother was Bibi Bhani. It is said that Guru Arjun Dev was interested in religious work since childhood and at the same time he had great attachment to spirituality. He considered social service as his biggest religion and duty. He was married at the age of 16 to Maa Ganga and in 1582, he was appointed as the fifth guru by Ramdas, the fourth guru of the Sikhs, replacing Arjun Devji as his fifth guru.
