The writer of the musical, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber took the stage in a black suit and black tie. He dedicated the final performance to his son Nick, who died in March after a long battle with stomach cancer and pneumonia. He was 43 years old.
The audience gave the musical a standing ovation. At the same time, producer Cameron Mackintosh clarified that The Phantom of the Opera could return to the stage.
“The only question I get asked over and over again is will The Ghost be back? Having been a producer for over 55 years, I’ve seen all the great musicals come back, and Ghost is one of bigger. So it’s only a matter of time,” McIntosh said.
