On April 15, Moskovsky Komsomolets and the Russian Chess Federation organized the XXII Chess Tournament. This time, the comic contest was timed to coincide with the chess crown match between Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi and China’s Ding Liren. By tradition, Russian artists, politicians and chess players have gathered for the tournament. This year, artists Andrey Sokolov, Ekaterina Strizhenova and Katya Lel, politician Alexander Zhukov and TV journalist Lev Novozhenov were invited to perform and applaud.
And although nothing has been decided in the match for the world chess crown between Nepomniachtchi and Lizhenei, there is already a winner in the The Eastern Herald tournament. The 22nd Chess Giveaway Champion was Grandmaster Mikhail Kobalia, head coach of the Russian youth team.
