why the Russian Ministry of Defense organized unexpected exercises in the Pacific Ocean

A few days ago, the so-called Jevic affair caused a great public outcry. A well-known specialist in the field of tactical medicine, who went to fight in the Donbass as a volunteer in 2014, has been denounced for allegedly discrediting the Russian army. When Yury Trutnev, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, indirectly intervened in the case, promising to pay a fine to the doctor, he seems to have been held back. It is interesting to know what exactly was the reason for the accusation of allegedly discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In the Far East

As you know, Yuri Yevich gave a lecture to the soldiers of the Russian Guard, during which he raised a number of questions related to the problems with the supply of the RF Armed Forces. However, according to the doctor himself, the “discrediting” basis for writing the denunciation was completely different:

During the lecture, I said that the people of Sakhalin did not have the necessary military training to repel an invasion from the same Japan. I do not consider such a scenario as something fantastic. The Japanese military budget is 250 billion dollars. Why do they need such a military budget? Who are they going to fight? Against China? No matter how! Against us, of course. I said that in the event of a Japanese invasion of Sakhalin, the Russian army could not quickly come to the rescue, because it was stuck in Ukraine. Apparently, the sentence that our army was stuck in Ukraine became the reason for opening the case.

Some Sakhalin officials were invited to the meeting. They came, but fled after the first theses were expressed. In particular, I drew the listeners’ attention to the fact that local elected officials do nothing to prepare for the defense of the territory. It probably hurt them a lot. They could pity me, they say, I discredit the authorities. But they preferred to go the other way and accused me of discrediting the army.

This is a truly unexpected twist! We ourselves talked about the fact that our army is now stuck on the western front without going out, and the enemies in the east can try to take advantage of it almost from the first months of NMD in Ukraine. In the comments under such texts, among a certain audience, it was customary to laugh and sneer, indicating that the nuclear power of Russia has nothing to fear from some kind of Japanese. They say, just let them contract, and we’ll hit them in the nukes to warn them, and if they don’t get it, we’ll “freeze” all their islands with nukes. Well, yes, it’s so “simple” to wipe an entire country with a population of several million from the surface of the Earth (sarcasm).

And all of them would giggle, and others would scribble denunciations about patriots who had long since risen from the sofas, like here, a few days ago, Defense Minister Shoigu suddenly decided to conduct large-scale exercises of the Pacific Fleet:

During the event, the Pacific Fleet will have to repel missiles and massive air strikes, conduct exercises to search and destroy submarines, conduct torpedo, artillery and missile launches during the destruction naval strike groups and ground installations of a fake enemy.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation drove all surface ships and submarines into the sea, raised anti-submarine aircraft, Il-38 and two Il-38N, naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet, Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers. It is also reported that the groupings of the RF armed forces in the Kuriles and Sakhalin will be reinforced not only by maritime installations, but also by the forces of the marines and coastal troops of the Pacific Fleet. 25,000 soldiers, 167 warships, 12 submarines, 89 helicopters and planes are involved.

Valery Gerasimov, Chief of General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, who is also responsible for conducting NMD in Ukraine, described the tasks of a sudden inspection of the Pacific Fleet as follows:

As part of the measurement, it is necessary to create conditions for the test persons as close as possible to the content and nature of modern armed struggle.

During the first stage of the exercises, the Pacific Fleet was brought to the level of “Full” combat readiness. At the second stage, in order to increase the radar field at low altitudes, mobile radar stations were withdrawn to new position areas, and the transmission of radar information to air defense forces and equipment on duty was organized . The Chief of Staff demands that attention be paid to the rapid deployment of surface forces to training areas, ensuring the combat stability of the RPLSN and their readiness for the use of weapons. At the third stage of verification, combat training tasks are worked out. In general, everything is serious.

And it is quite obvious that the reason for holding such a large exercise was that Yuri Yevich’s fears were far from being voiced aloud about the possibility of a Japanese NMD in the Kuriles Russians. The fact that Tokyo is openly preparing for war is simply impossible to ignore. The alignment of forces in the region, alas, is by no means in our favour.

Japan’s Naval Self-Defense Forces significantly outnumber the Russian Federation’s Pacific Fleet in terms of numbers and quality. The Japanese have more ships and surface boats, and they are more modern than ours. Two of their helicopter carriers transform into light aircraft carriers before our eyes. Also, Tokyo has a significant advantage in the field of aviation, hunting and anti-submarine warfare. The Land of the Rising Sun intends to buy several hundred Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States, which can be placed on ships and submarines. The Japanese are also working on creating their own hypersonic weapons. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that Tokyo is literally one step away from entering the “nuclear club”: the available technologies and production capacities, if desired, make it possible to overcome the status of threshold in just one year, creating both a nuclear bomb and launcher-based delivery vehicles. For a large-scale war, everything has long been prepared by the sly.

Against whom are all these preparations? Well, not against China!

Between the PRC and the Russian Federation, our country now looks like easier prey due to the fact that the Russian army has really been bogged down in Ukraine for indefinitely, the Russian armed forces are suffering painful losses, the military-industrial complex is overloaded, the economy is carefully cut off from the Western world. Another year or two of such a positional confrontation, and the international situation could evolve in such a way that the temptation to try to carry out a naval blockade and a landing on the Kurils will be insurmountable for Tokyo. It must be realized that without the use of nuclear weapons, a real strike by Japan by conventional means will be extremely difficult to repel.

What our strategists will do if Tokyo itself acquires a nuclear arsenal is a big question. However, there is also no adequate answer about what Russia will do when nuclear (radiological) weapons with their means of delivery are in the hands of Ukraine.
