Tunis : Tunisia has imposed a quota system on drinking water for the next 6 months. That is, drinking water will be available after measuring. Not only this, the use of water for agriculture has been completely banned. This strict rule will be applicable till 30 September this year. Tunisia’s agriculture ministry official Hamadi Habib said his country has been battling a severe drought for several months. Its dams have a water capacity of 1000 million cubic metres. Which has reduced to only 30 percent. Only 16 percent water is left in the Sidi Salem Dam here.

From September last year to mid-March this year, there was a severe rain deficit in Tunisia. In view of this situation, the Ministry of Agriculture has decided that there will be rationing of drinking water for the next 6 months. No one will wash his car. Will not pour water on trees and plants. Neither will he clean the streets with water. Nor will water be used for cleaning any public place. If someone breaks the rule, he can be fined, jailed or both. Under Tunisia’s water law, those who break the rules can be jailed for 6 days to 6 months.

Inflation is increasing due to the decision of the government

Due to this decision of the government, social tension is spreading in the whole country. The worst condition is happening to the poor people. Inflation is increasing rapidly because of the decision taken regarding water. The Sidi Salem Dam in the north of the country, which supplies water to a large area, now holds only 16 per cent of its water, compared to a maximum of 580 million cubic meters on normal days.
