Aerial bombs fell on Belgorod the other day. Ammunition was fired from a Russian Su-34 bomber flying over the city. A possible reason for the Fontanka incident was named by a Russian military pilot, retired General Vladimir Popov.
According to him, cases where the bomb explodes on its own are very rare. Here, the electronics and an emergency element could fail – a mechanical key used to arm a bomb rack.
“Maybe there’s a big chance here too – there’s a key when you cock this bomb rack, one of the back-up mechanisms, not only electrical, but also mechanical. It’s cocked and the key is 25-30 centimeters away… You can see when the signaling device rises, but you can hear those clicks <…> when the airfield engines are running. Maybe there was some kind of work on this leg, which fixes it, – said Vladimir Popov.
He added that they recommend limiting overflights of military equipment over cities. And on the fact that the Belgorod bomb exploded underground, he explained that the detonation could have been programmed for a delayed time.
Earlier, the “regional head” wrote about the explosion in Belgorod. One of the shells exploded in the city – two people were injured. The second remained intact and went underground. It was found and destroyed at the training ground. It went on video.
