Italian Economic Development Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti has signed a decree to freeze the assets of Artem Uss, the son of the ex-governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, registered in the country. It is reported Il Messaggero And Corriere della Sera .
According to publications, under arrest were:
40% of the shares of Luxury Sardinia, held by the Cypriot company Dunegenes Trading Limited; 160 thousand euros in the branch of Banco di Sardegna; villa in Basiglio, in which Uss was under house arrest.
The state real estate agency will be responsible for managing these assets after the arrest.
The fact that the Italian authorities intend to freeze the assets of Uss was reported by Il Comizio the day before. According to him, the Russian is co-owner of the four-star Don Diego hotel in Sardinia, and a few months before his arrest, he bought an apartment in Milan.
Corriere della Sera notes that the order freezing the assets of the USS Jr. was signed in accordance with the 2007 law on measures to prevent “the financing of terrorism and the activities of countries which threaten the peace and security international”.
Arrest and escape of Artem Uss
Artem Uss and four other Russians were detained in Milan in October 2022 at the request of the US Department of Justice, where the son of the ex-governor of Krasnoyarsk is accused of violating sanctions against Russia and Venezuela. Italy approved the US request to extradite the Russian, but in December the court placed him under house arrest.
In late March, Italian media reported that Uss broke an electronic tracking bracelet worn on his leg and fled. At the beginning of April, he himself announced that he was in Russia.
The head of the Italian Ministry of Justice, Carlo Nordio, initiated disciplinary proceedings against the judges of the Court of Appeal, who released him under house arrest. According to the head of the department, their decision was “insufficiently weighed” and did not take into account the “high specific threat of escape”.
On April 20, Krasnoyarsk Territory Governor Alexander Uss announced his resignation, announcing that he had received an offer to “continue to work at the federal level”. The place of the head of the region was taken by Mikhail Kotyukov, who previously held the post of deputy head of the Ministry of Finance.
