This evening, the activities of the Eid Al Fitr Festival kicked off in both Souq Waqif and Souq Al Wakra, the old one, which is organized by the Celebrations Committee of the Special Engineering Office, and will continue for five days.

On the first day of the festival, both markets witnessed a large turnout of Qatari and resident families and siblings from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, who came to these two heritage spaces in order to bring joy and happiness to their children on Eid Al-Fitr, which is their holiday par excellence.

Young and old raced to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the events and activities prepared by the Celebrations Committee of the Private Engineering Office, whether it was related to skill games for all groups, or infantry teams’ performances, especially since the moderate weather helped everyone to go out into public spaces.

The Celebrations Committee stated that the Eid al-Fitr festival in Souq Waqif often has a special flavor, due to its presence in the beating heart of Doha, in addition to the symbolic prices of the games. The market also includes all the vital facilities needed by the visitor and restaurants of all kinds and tastes, eastern and western. In addition to traditional Qatari dishes. The old Al-Wakra market, in turn, organizes the Eid Al-Fitr festival after the successes it achieved on such an occasion and in other festivals that it organized during the past years, as it is distinguished by its unique heritage character on the Al-Wakra beach front.

For their part, the show teams spread joy and pleasure in the hearts of visitors in both Souq Waqif and the old Al-Wakra market, with their bright and lacy clothes, while they beat the drums of joy at times, or with enthusiastic tarab music accompanying at other times. The performance of the “Jelly Fish” band had a special taste in the old Al-Wakra market on Al-Wakra beach, where everyone followed the displays of luminous marine creatures as they roamed along the beach promenade to and fro on long wooden poles, while the visitors’ phones cameras were chasing them to document these beautiful moments.

The two troupes presented in Souq Waqif a total of 7 performances at different times, as the time for one show ranged between 20 and 30 minutes.. while the two show troupes in the old Al-Wakra market presented a total of 8 performances for a time ranging between a quarter of an hour and half an hour for each show.

A number of the pioneers of the Eid al-Fitr festival in the two markets, citizens, residents and tourists, expressed their happiness with the atmosphere and events that were provided in order to bring joy to the hearts of their children, noting that the reason for choosing the two markets during the Eid holiday was due to the simplicity of the two places, and the presence of games and events that meet the desires of their children. In order to develop their concentration skills, as well as to interact with society away from the atmosphere of the daily routine.

It is noteworthy that both Souq Waqif and the old Al-Wakra market are distinguished by their traditional urban character, which preserves the specifics of traditional Qatari architecture, whether in shops, organizing streets, the method of paving them, and the colors of their walls, and the old Al-Wakra market is characterized by its openness to the sea, which made it an ideal place to spend vacation days. holidays, as well as attracting visitors from outside the region.
