India: The growing population has to be taken in the right direction

– Published on:

According to the United Nations data that came recently, India has now become the most populous country in the world. India’s population has reached 142.86 crore while China’s population is 142.57 crore. India’s population has now increased to 29 lakhs. With this, India has left China behind in terms of population. This is the first time that India’s population has overtaken that of China since 1950.

Power of population- The fact is that China had changed its fortune and picture by converting its huge population into human resource. Today, as a result of that, China is a world power, while India is still far behind China on many fronts. Today’s India is standing in economic, political and global power at almost the same place from where China started convincing the world 30 years back. India has also got this golden opportunity to prove itself, which India would never want to miss. However, these days the debate on social media is going on in India regarding the increasing population. Some are enumerating its benefits and some are enumerating its disadvantages.

Youth power – India’s population has the highest number of youths 68% (15 to 64 years), 26% (10 to 24 years) and 7% (above 64 years) in the history of any country such a golden opportunity comes once in centuries It is when it has sufficient young labor force i.e. working people are more and dependent people are less. In this matter, we should learn from our neighbor China that how China made its population its strength, not weakness. China taught its population skilled crafts and created a favorable environment for the trade of other countries of the world, from which most countries invested in China and took advantage. For this reason, China is called the factory of the world. China took many historical steps that were very important for the country’s development and prosperity at that time, whether it was the ‘only one child’ policy by Mao in the 50s or prominence in the world economy.

Challenges of Employment – Providing employment to the growing population is really a big challenge, the way the population is increasing, it is a challenge for the government to provide employment at that speed. Other countries of the world are turning to India, India can become a manufacturing hub, of which the auto mobile sector is an example at present. Big companies are now turning to India for their assembling. Similarly, India can do very well in other sectors as well, but for that, the government needs to make preparations on a large scale. The government should increase the education and skill of children in the age group of 10-24 years. By the time they grow up, they will be fully skilled and it will be easy for them to find employment.

Stopping migration – It is often seen when a child after studying in top class institutes like IIT, IIM of the country goes abroad and works in the companies there, then it benefits other countries and not India. There is a need to simplify the policies regarding start ups in the country so that the youth of the country can start such a company in their own country, this will benefit the country’s talent and the country will move forward.

Preparing for the future- It is challenging for any country to take the increasing population in the right direction and contribute more to the development of the country. The coming 10 years are very important for India, if India is successful in implementing its future policies, then the time to come will belong to India. For this, if it has to take some lessons from China, then it should not be missed, as China used the advantage of its huge population to shape the future of its country, India has a similar opportunity at this time.

India and China may have differences in some subjects, but at the same time, we should not forget that both the countries have a mythological and historical relation which is much more important. India and China are the big neighboring countries of Asia which can play the sting of Asia in the world. With India-China bilateral trade running into several billion dollars, India and China are dependent on each other. Both the countries are constantly trying to improve their relations further, it would not be wrong to say that the coming era will be of Asia and there is no importance of these two countries in this… This cannot happen.
