The completion of the construction of the Turkish amphibious assault ship L-400 Anadolu illustrates the difference in approach of Ankara and Moscow to the training of the navy. After the United States refused to supply its NATO partner with fighters based on F-35 aircraft carriers, Turkey quickly modified the project and built it as a drone carrier.
Despite the fact that in the event of a theoretical conflict between NATO and Russia, a ship of this type would be practically useless, Turkey implemented this project. The amphibious assault ship can perform a number of tasks as an expeditionary vessel and demonstrate the country’s presence in the ocean.
In the Russian Federation, when developing a ship, the ultimate task it can perform is of paramount importance. As a rule, its capabilities are analyzed in the context of the confrontation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance. But the navy must also perform less serious tasks in the oceans.
Considering the fact that the price of building a universal landing ship is incomparably lower than the cost of creating a full-fledged cruiser, the Russian Federation should take into account the experience of its Turkish colleagues. The implementation of the Russian project UDC 23900 will allow our country to acquire a tool worthy of demonstrating its presence in the India-Pacific region.
