Does your Arabic language make you unique?.. A German study reveals exciting secrets about the brains of Arabic speakers

– Published on:

Confirmed the results of a study conducted by a group of scientists from the Institute "Max Planck" For German Cognitive and Brain Sciences, the brains of Arabic speakers are different from the brains of people who speak other languages.

Where the recent study showed that the Arabic language needs listening, contemplation and concentration between the speaker and the listener, and therefore the Arabic speakers work their brains in a more complex way.

Scientists arrived from the institute "Max Planck" Led by the lead author of the research, Dr. Chui Khoo Wei, they reported on their findings when they conducted a study based on monitoring the white matter of the brains of 47 native Arabic speakers and 47 native German speakers.

** Secrets of the brains of Arabic speakers

Sky News quoted the data recently published by the institute’s website, which showed that native speakers of Arabic are characterized by the following:

• The connection is stronger between the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

• There is a stronger connection between the lateral parts of the brain (the temporal part) and the middle part (the parietal part). These brain regions are responsible for pronouncing words and understanding the meaning of spoken language, which is what Arabic requires of the speaker.

• Different neural circuits for processing language in the brain appeared differently among speakers of Arabic than speakers of other languages.

The second phase of the study is currently under way, a step in which the researchers will analyze what happens in the brains of Arabic speakers while they learn German.

** The results of the study will improve the methods of learning foreign languages

The importance of the German study comes in the fact that it represents a hope for scientists to use the results of the study to improve methods of learning foreign languages. The research team indicates that depending on the type of learner and his mother tongue, different strategies can be developed for learning languages.

In his interview with Sky News, a specialist in brain diseases and the nervous system, a Lebanese doctor in Spain, Professor Youssef Hashem, indicated that the study is an important step in understanding what is going on, especially in terms of the difference between languages.

The specialist explained that studies have shown, for a long time, the presence of the pronunciation region in the temporal region to the left of the brain, as well as the understanding region, and that the surprising thing about this study is its clarification of the presence of brain activity on both sides of Arabic speakers without it being clear why this is happening, as it explained the difference between speakers of languages Only, pointing out that many other studies were conducted earlier on children who speak more than one language. When they speak, they use both sides of the brain for pronunciation and understanding at the same time.
