Erdogan’s administration denies reports of heart attack

Versions that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suffered a heart attack are not true, the Center for Countering Disinformation under the Presidential Administration has said. Thus, the department reacted to reports in the media about the health of the Turkish leader.

“Allegations that President Erdogan had a heart attack and was hospitalized are not true. The president will participate in the first fueling ceremony at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which will take place tomorrow, through a live broadcast,” the center said on its Twitter page.

Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay declared that the state of the Turkish president “is very good, we are in constant contact, he has caught a small cold”.

Member of the Security and Foreign Policy Council under Turkish President Chagry Erhan also refuted information about Erdogan’s heart attack. He told Lente.ru that the Turkish leader fell ill with the stomach flu due to active outdoor pre-election events (on May 14 presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in Turkey) and did not suffer any heart attack. He also called such speculation “a clear example of how social media can be dangerously used by treacherous and irresponsible people”.

Additionally, on April 27, Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled a ceremony to deliver Russian-made nuclear fuel to the No. 1 power unit of Turkey’s Akkuyu nuclear power plant. Putin was to attend the event by videoconference and Erdogan in person. However, on the evening of April 26, the representative of the ruling party in Turkey, Erkan Candemir, wrote on his Twitter that the Turkish leader would not personally attend the ceremony, but would appear at the event in format video.
