A senior legislator and consumer watchdog in Indonesia has urged scrutiny of a product from one of the world’s largest instant noodle brands after it was recalled in Taiwan and Malaysia over concerns it contained a carcinogen, Reuters reports.

The company and its parent company declined to comment today, Thursday, while local media earlier quoted the company as saying that the product complies with regulatory standards, both locally and in importing countries. For its part, the Indonesian Consumer Protection Agency said, today, Thursday, that the Food Authority must To check the ingredients of the product and withdraw it if it does not meet safety standards.

Indonesia’s health ministry referred all questions to the food authority, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Budi Santoso, an official with the Indonesian Ministry of Commerce, told reporters Thursday that instant noodles in Indonesia are safe and Taiwan’s regulations are safe. "Very sensitive and different with us".

The company said overseas sales of the company’s products last year, which also include dairy products and snacks, contributed 29% of its total sales of 64.8 trillion rupees ($4.41 billion).
