Recently, a reporter from China Media Group conducted an exclusive interview with Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chavez Robles. The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Costa Rica in 2007 ushered in a new era of friendly relations between the two countries. In an interview with CMG, Chaves said that Costa Rica respects the One-China principle. China is developing very rapidly, and has become one of the most important two large economies in the world. As a small country, Costa Rica wants to attract investment to build infrastructure, and is very interested in the growing market in China. The demand for protein in China is increasing day by day. Costa Rica produces meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, so both countries can be a win-win.

Currently, China has become Costa Rica’s second largest trading partner. President Chávez said that he sincerely hopes that Chinese companies will come to his country to produce and export. Costa Rica doesn’t have enough infrastructure, but China has a lot of money. Costa Rica is attracting investment and China needs foreign investment. Thus, there is great scope for cooperation between the two countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Costa Rica in 2007, bilateral exchanges have marked many “firsts”. Costa Rica is not only the first Central American country to establish diplomatic relations with China in the new century, but also the first Central American country to establish a strategic partnership with China and the first Central American country to sign a series of free trade agreements with China. Is. In September 2018, the two countries signed an MoU on the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”. In December 2019, the Costa Rican government legally designated the first day of the first lunar month of the Chinese calendar as “Chinese Culture Day”. It set a precedent for the legal establishment of “Chinese Culture Day” in Latin America.

Referring to the cultural exchange between the countries, President Chávez said that it is very important. In his view, all countries of the world should come closer to each other through cultural exchanges, and achieve common prosperity through trade exchanges, investments and security cooperation.
