London. Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Emin Zhaparova on Tuesday expressed regret over the country’s Defense Ministry’s “misrepresentation” of Goddess Kali and apologized for the act, saying the country and its people “respect the unique Indian culture”. .

Jhaparova had visited India on April 9. This was the first official foreign trip by a minister from the Eastern European country (Ukraine) since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February last year. After widespread social media outrage over the incident involving Goddess Kali, he said in a tweet, “We regret the misrepresentation of Goddess Kali by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

This picture was tweeted on April 30, which has sparked outrage on social media platforms. On April 30, Kanchan Gupta, senior advisor in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, shared the tweet of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, saying, “Disinformation A picture of Goddess Kali was placed in the poster made for the purpose. This is an attack on the sentiments of the Hindu community across the globe.

Gupta also said that Ukraine has “ridiculed Goddess Kali in a way that no other government or country has ever done”. Some users even urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to intervene in the issue. Tagging Jaishankar, a user said in his tweet, “Please take note of this derogatory post for misrepresenting Maa Kali.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken several times on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky since the Ukraine crisis began in February last year.
