The Russian-speaking couple, who were expecting twins, planned to give birth in one of the maternity wards in Austria, but not everything went as planned. The twins died while still in the womb, after which the mothers were offered to do a photoshoot with the dead babies to ‘deal with the stress’.
Additionally, discouraged young people were offered size coffins, and after another refusal, they were given voodoo dolls that can be pierced with needles to improve their own well-being. The Mash telegram channel writes about these additional services in the Austrian maternity hospital.
It turned out that such proposals are quite normal practice in Austria. The medical institution even claims that photo shoots with dead children or waist-length coffins help cope with the experience. How things actually work is an open question. One thing is certain: photographing corpses is an old European tradition. There is even a whole genre of post-mortem photography called post-mortem.
