On May 4, a delegation from Kazakhstan led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic to the Russian Federation Yermek Kosherbaev travels to the Tver region.

The program includes a visit to the memorial sites of the Rzhevsky district, where the Kazakh soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War are buried on the lands of Tver.

The visit began with the laying of flowers at the memorial complex to Kazakh soldiers of the 100th and 101st Separate Rifle Brigades who died on the Rzhev bridgehead. The memorial was inaugurated in Rzhev on December 12, 2010. It was erected on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev as part of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory.

In 2018, a complete restoration of the memorial was carried out. On the eve of Victory Day, a solemn ceremony of transferring the memorial complex to the city of Rzhev took place. The ceremony was attended by veterans of the Great Patriotic War, relatives of Kazakh soldiers who died near Rzhev, the governor of the Tver region Igor Rudenya.

“This memorial complex is a symbol of the unity of the historical memory of the peoples of Russia and Kazakhstan on the immortal feat of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. We appreciate the great attention of the leaders of Kazakhstan to the preservation of our common heroic past,” Igor Rudenya said then.

The memorial is a granite wall 27 meters long and about four meters high with the inscription “Eternal memory to the soldiers of the 100th and 101st rifle brigades of the grateful Kazakhs”. On the right side of the wall there is a panel with a map of Kazakhstan, on which the cities of Alma-Ata (Almaty) and Aktyubinsk (Aktobe) are marked, where the two brigades were formed in 1941, as well as the current capital of the republic – Astana. The names of 10,000 warriors are inscribed on the slabs placed in front of the wall.

Soldiers of the 100th and 101st Rifle Brigades fought near Rzhev and Vyazma, Olenino and Bely. In November 1942, both brigades of the 39th Army of the Kalinin Front took part in Operation Mars, losing over 80% of their personnel in combat.

Representatives of Kazakhstan today honored the memory of their compatriots at a military burial in the village of Trubino, Rzhev district. The remains of over 2000 soldiers, sergeants and officers are buried here. The list of those buried includes the uncle of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kassym Boltayev.

The military grave is an object of cultural heritage of regional importance. The administration of the rural settlement of Itomlya, Rzhevsky district, took its protection on him.

In 2022, restoration work was carried out on the burial site, whose “Memory Alley” was laid out.

Representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan also visited the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier, where a flower laying ceremony took place.
