The Egyptian Super Cup started in 2001 and was held with the one-match system, which is the system that has not changed until now, and the competition has kept its usual annual aspect, with the except for the years 2011 and 2013, when the tournament was canceled due to the circumstances of the January 25 and June 30 revolutions.

Champions record

• The tournament has taken place 19 times from 2001 to 2022. Only 5 clubs have been crowned with the title, and 9 clubs have taken part. Pyramids will be the tenth club to record its presence in the Egyptian Super Cup.

• Al-Ahly Club is the most crowned club with 12 titles.

• Zamalek is in second place with 4 titles

• Haras al-Hodood, Arab entrepreneurs and vanguards of the army, each of them won a title.

• Enppi, Ghazl El Mahalla, Al Masry and Ismaili, clubs which participated in the Super Cup and settled for the silver medal only.

Dating history

• The first Super Cup final saw an apology from then-league champions Club Ismaili to replace Ghazl El Mahalla against Zamalek and crown Al-Abyad with the first title after their 2-1 win, the September 14, 2001.

• The second final saw Zamalek crowned with a clean goal at the expense of Arab Contractors on 19 September 2002, after which Al-Abyad went out of winning ways for several years.

• Al-Ahly won their first Super Cup title in the third final in 2003 after beating Zamalek on penalties 3-1, after the match ended in a goalless draw on August 28, 2003.

• On 10 September 2004, the Super Cup marks its first egregious surprise, with the Arab Contractors’ 4-2 victory over Zamalek, depriving Al-Abyad of their third title.

• The fifth final saw Al-Ahly equalize Zamalek’s titles by winning the second championship from Enppi on 27 July 2005.

• Al-Ahly’s control continued into the Super Cup to win the title again in 2006, 2007 and 2008, respectively, again at the expense of Enppi, Ismaili and Zamalek.

Haras El Hodood broke Al Ahly’s control over the 2009 Super Cup victory and defeated them with a clean brace, after which Al Ahly reacted strongly and dominated again.

• Al-Ahly won the title in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015, beating clubs Haras El Hodoud, Enppi and Zamalek (twice).

• After a 13-year absence, Zamalek returned to winning the Super Cup in 2017 at the expense of Al-Ahly, with a 3-1 penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium from Abu Dhabi.

• In 2018, Al-Ahly regained the crown from Al-Masry at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in the Emirates, to win with a clean goal.

• At the Burj Al Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Al-Ahly regained their superiority over Zamalek in the Super Cup final and won 3-2 in 2019.

• Zamalek responded by beating Al-Ahly again on penalties, 4-3, after a goalless draw at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, to claim their fourth title.

• Big surprises were repeated in the Super Championship n°18. The Army vanguard beat Al-Ahly on penalties 3-2 after a goalless draw at Burj Al-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

• The final Super Cup tournament was again held at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium between Al-Ahly and Zamalek, and Al-Ahmar crowned the title after their 2-0 victory on October 28, 2022.

• Super Cup 20 will be held between Al-Ahly and Pyramids at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, the stadium that saw Al-Ahly crowned in the tournament’s last appearance, which drew large crowds, and the United Arab Emirates have been the scene of its exciting events.
