The State Duma commented on the attack on the Russian delegation at the PABSEC summit

At the summit of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly in Ankara, the Ukrainian delegate attacked the secretary of the Russian delegation, Valery Stavitsky. Furthermore, the Ukrainian delegation tried to disrupt the discourse of its Russian colleagues by waving the flag of the “right sector”*. The Russian Embassy called the incident flagrant and called on the Turkish authorities to treat it with special attention.

State Duma deputy Sergei Gavrilov commented on the incident, reports the Public News Service.

“Since the beginning of the 2000s, Ukrainian MPs, especially those from nationalist factions, have shown a dismissive and indifferent attitude both to the format of international events and to MPs from other countries, including Russia,” he said. he declared.

According to the deputy, states organizing such summits should pay attention to the safety of participants, punish provocateurs and exclude the possibility of their participation in such events in the future.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the goal of the provocateurs at the summit was to “discredit the authority and reputation of the Turkish parliament” ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.

“Therefore, I think it is better either to refrain from participating in such events, of course. Or send deputies such as Nikolai Valuev to such events. It would look more organic there, ” noted the MP.
