On May 5, in the Marble Hall of the Russian Embassy in Seoul, a festive concert of the embassy school “Victory Spring” was held. According to the event’s press release, “every student at the school, from the youngest to the high school students, performed touching and familiar songs” such as “White Cranes”, “Katyusha”, “Victory Day” and d ‘others.

The following day, the Immortal Regiment rally was held in the South Korean capital, which was held in person for the first time since 2019 in South Korea.

As stated on the official page of the Russian Embassy in the ROK, about 150 compatriots living in the ROK, representatives of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots Organizations (KSORS), embassy employees, Rossotrudnichestvo and a number of Russian foreign institutions, as well as citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the action.

All passed with portraits of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War. The procession was followed by a concert dedicated to Victory Day.

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Seoul, Andrey Borisovich Kulik, gave a welcoming speech in which he stressed that victory in the Great Patriotic War is a special victory, because in this war it was the total destruction of our state, our people, our civilization. “All we have, we ourselves are a continuation of Victory,” noted the head of the embassy.

A series of festive events take place simultaneously on the same days in the north of the Korean peninsula – in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, where a large number of monuments and burial places of the soldiers of the Soviet army who liberated Korea in 1945 are located.

According to the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang, diplomats from the Russian Embassy and employees of the military attache visited the memorial complexes in the cities of Tonlim, Sinuiju, Uiju, Haeju, Napmho the day before, laying flowers.
Directly on VE Day on May 9, a wreath laying ceremony will be held at the Liberation Monument (Hebanthap) in central Pyongyang, as well as at a memorial in the northeastern town of Rason. , where the Russian-Korean joint venture Rasonkontrans continues to operate.


At the same time, the action “Immortal Regiment” will take place in both cities, in which several dozen Russians and representatives of the DPRK authorities will take part. On May 11, Russian diplomats are due to visit the DPRK’s east coast cities of Wonsan and Hamhung to lay wreaths in honor of Victory Day.
