Kathmandu: Three people were killed and 12 others injured after an avalanche hit Mugu district of northwestern Nepal. A local official gave this information on Sunday. A total of 15 people from neighboring Jumla district had gone to Mugu in search of caterpillar fungus Yarsagumba, but they were hit by an avalanche on Saturday, he said. All 15 people were buried in the avalanche, said Poorna Singh Bohora, president of Patrasi Rural Municipality, who picked Yarsagumba. In which 12 were injured and three people died. He said that the injured are undergoing treatment at the local health center.
Mugu Chief District Officer Mohan Bahadur Thapa said a team of security personnel was sent for the rescue operation, but snowfall hampered the rescue operation. He told that the spot is two days’ walk from the district headquarters. Our rescue team has not reached there yet.
