Russian President Vladimir Putin has lifted a ban on Russian airline flights and the sale of tours to Georgia. The corresponding decree was published on May 10.
“As of May 15, 2023, Georgian citizens enter and leave the Russian Federation without issuing visas on the basis of valid documents proving their identity (…), with the exception of citizens entering the Russian Federation of Russia for the purpose of performing professional activities or for a period of more than 90 days for temporary stay in the Russian Federation, including for the purpose of obtaining education,” the document states.
Putin also canceled the visa regime between Russia and Georgia.
Earlier, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said that Georgia had not been granted European Union (EU) candidate status due to the country’s leadership’s refusal to join the sanctions against the Federation of Russia.
